Scientific Programme

The scientific program will cover all aspects of protozoology including ecology, morphology, physiology, taxonomy, parasitology and molecular biology.

We have invited outstanding speakers for plenary talks covering diverse aspects of protistology (the program will be updated continuously).

Posters will be shown during all coffee breaks and 2-minutes introductions will be given in a session. A poster prize for the best 3 posters will be awarded and will be voted by all conference attendees. A Best Student Talk prize will also be awarded and is eligible only to students presenting their Bachelor, Master thesis or PHD students presenting their results and is voted by a society committee. Students who give an oral presentation and wish to apply for this prize must indicate their application with the registration.

Workshop

This year, young scientists are invited to join a pre-conference workshop on the biology and determination of protists

The workshop will take place in the Biocenter of the University of Cologne (15 minutes walk from the guesthouse, see map below) and will start on Tuesday 27th February at 9.00 until 17.00 o'clock. It will be organized by Frank Nitsche, Kenneth Dumack and Hartmut Arndt.

We will offer three different topics, of which two can be chosen. Lunch will take place at the University Mensa.

All equipment will be provided but you can bring samples if you like.

Topic 1

Introduction to the preparation and analysis of protists using electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) (Frank Nitsche)

Topic 2

Introduction to the diversity and morphology of amoeboid protists  (Kenneth Dumack)

Topic 3

Introduction to the diversity and morphology of flagellated protists (Hartmut Arndt)

A registration for the pre-conference workshop together with the registration is necessary.
